What to do when Queensland Government Assets are Damaged

Safety First
When an incident occurs, the safety of staff and the public is paramount. Your first priority is to make sure that everyone is safe and out of harm’s way before securing the area and taking steps to prevent any future loss or damage.

Take Remedial Action
While it is important to notify QGIF at the earliest opportunity, you can immediately repair or replace damaged assets as required in accordance with your Agency’s procurement process. This ensures disruptions to your Agency are minimised.

Take photos of the damaged property prior to commencing any remedial repairs. Ensure any salvageable assets and equipment are kept and stored safely.

Contact QGIF
Email us at claims@qgif.qld.gov.au notifying us of the incident and provide as much information as possible or complete our online Claim Form Make a claim – Queensland Government Insurance Fund (QGIF).   Notifying us early of any damage that may lead to a claim is important, even if at the time you are unclear as to the full details or estimates of costs.

Next Steps
Once a claim has been reported to QGIF, a claims officer will liaise with you and advise the next steps. Depending on the type and value of the claim, we may appoint a loss assessor, engineer or other experts to provide specialist advice regarding your Agency’s claim.

Once we are in possession of all relevant information including supporting documentation, you will be notified of the outcome of your Agency’s claim and the process for finalising reimbursement of your Agency’s outlays.

Retain Proof
Identify and retain any documentation to substantiate your Agency’s claim/s such as:

Scope of worksInvoicesExpert Reports
PhotographsQuotationsInternal Departmental Reports

At all times keep a record of any discarded items.

Remember!!
Cleanup costs are not covered by QGIF unless there is damage to insured property, however, these costs may be recoverable through the DRFA subject to their acceptance.
